Abundance in Refuse
2020
In Singapore, food wastage is a complex and large scale problem and yet, there is a significant population experiencing food insecurity. The term 'food rescue' pertains to the practice of salvaging edible food that would otherwise be discarded and redirecting it for consumption. One active group in Singapore, SG Food Rescue, is engaged in this effort.
Abundance in Refuse is a three-part documentary series that illustrates how rescued food can profoundly benefit various groups of people, underscoring the urgency and impact of the accumulation of substantial quantities. Two groups of beneficiaries in focus are namely the patrons of Krishna’s Kitchen and my family.
Selected portions of this project won CDL Singapore Young Photographer Award 2020 and were exhibited at DECK via a digital showcase within the same year.
